I don’t know if my students know about sexual abuse? How can I be helpful in giving this information?

By raising this question you certainly have shown your concern for fulfilling your responsibility to your student. A growing child needs to know about sexual abuse so that he/she can develop his/her life skills in order to take informed decisions on how to deal with that. You are the person whom your child trusts a lot and studies have shown that young people want to get information about sex and sexuality from the trusted source like their parents and teachers. You will have to take initiative to talk about these sensitive issues and open a communication channel between both of you. You will have to learn communication skills to know how to gain trust in your students when dealing with such sensitive issues. Also, you will need to equip yourself with the information regarding sexual abuse and other sexuality related questions. For more information on these refer to the readings below.
