Reasons for emotional changes

Emotional changes that occur during adolescence, most notably moodiness, are often attributed to puberty. The most important physical change that occur primary and secondary development are due to the hormonal changes.

Research shows that rapid fluctuations in hormones are accompanied by irritability, impulsivity, aggression and depression. The link between hormones and moodiness is strongest in early adolescence. Girls undergo a lot of emotional changes and these are related to the menstrual cycle. At this period there is a perceptible mood change termed Premenstrual Tension (PMT). Typical manifestations are depression, anxiety, irritability, fatigue, headache and low self-esteem. Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) includes both the physical and psychological aspects of the problem.

It is important to note that all the above emotional changes that young people experience are normal.
